Sometimes the best yarn is the one that was once new, you used it, and it isn't on your radar anymore.

That is how we feel about Berroco's Ultra Alpaca. We had forgotten how much we LOVE this yarn until we chose it for our recent shop model. We used three skeins of Ultra Alpaca in worsted weight to knit a size 43" vest (finished size). Trym Vest is a classic vest, that has a split hem, hanging slightly longer in the back than at the front, and elegant lines of broken rib that continue up the side of the body. Knitted seamlessly from the bottom up, this pattern comes with lots of options for making it your own, including a V-neck or scoop neck version. The Trym Vest pattern is also available in other gauges. Come in and try it on!

The Double Thick Hat is all it promises to be. It is a free, simple, stockinette stitch hat pattern. Because you actually knit a "liner" of the same yarn for your hat, it is super cozy, will keep ears warm and is completely reversible. You might knit it in two different colors to match two coats or maybe a neutral on one side and a fun pop of color for the other side!

Our sample was knit using Ecopuno Tweed from Lana Grossa Yarns. It is a 60% cotton (yes, cotton, the beautiful halo will fool you!), 14% baby alpaca, 10% wool and 10% polyester blend. It is very soft, perfect for anyone on your list that might be sensitive. Wear this hat slouchy or with a turned up cuff. Note: The pattern calls for fingering weight; the shop sample is worked on a sport weight yarn using #4 US (or size needed to obtain gauge). This is a speedy and enjoyable knit!

We have received at least six new yarns in the past week and we are working to get them on the website, so look for another newsletter in mid-November. When reworking our luxury yarns shelves, we decided to put two yarn lines on sale. These yarns will work up into a luxurious gift for someone you love (or for yourself). Or, give these skeins as a gift to one of your favorite knitters or crocheters!

  • Lucca is a light worsted weight, 50% cotton/50% cashmere yarn from Berroco.

  • Mayu from Amano Yarns is a 60% royal alpaca/20% cashmere/20% silk dk weight blend.

Heathered Merino Superfine was not in our luxury section, but it might as well have been because it feels so luxurious! There is 20% merino in this superwash yarn, so it can also be used for socks. Alpaca Heather is a dk weight hand-dyed. We have the beautiful Aubree in the shop knit with this yarn. Karma is a multicolor cotton/viscose/linen dk weight blend. This yarn softly self-stripes. The viscose gives a little shimmer to some sections of the yarn. Zinnia is a light worsted cotton/nylon blend that is subtly marled, with a tweed texture.
