Simple Living Hat

Last year, we enjoyed making the Isidia Beanie, on display in the shop. It is a free, three-color slip-stitch pattern using sport or dk weight yarn. Using slipped stitches in your knitting is easy -- you just move the stitch from the left-hand needle to the right-hand needle without knitting it. This pattern, and slip-stitch knitting in general, is easy and fun because you are only knitting with one color of yarn at a time. However, as you have three balls of yarn hanging off your project, they often get tangled with each other.

To avoid the tangling -- especially for a first-time slip-stitch knitter -- we created a two-color slip-stitch hat pattern we call the Simple Living Hat. The name of this hat has to do with the simplicity of the slip-stitch pattern and frugality. You don't need to purchase fancy yarn to make this project a success; you can use scraps of yarn for the contrasting color and it will still come out beautiful.

This pattern has three sizes: adult small, medium and large; and stitch counts are given for three weights of yarn: dk, worsted and aran. The most yarn you will need is 90 yards of a main color and 60 yards of a contrasting color. This pattern is available for free with any purchase from our website. To request this pattern, there is a place to add a note in your shopping cart, or you can just come into our shop in Belfast!
